26 December 1960 My dear Len and Margaret Christmas is now far away. We spent a very nice time all together, every one in good form. They kept on singing away, going from one room to another, but they mostly kept in the kitchen where poor Roselle was busy with her cooking. I felt sorry for her, the singing you could almost have heard from Corbiere. They kept on until lunchtime, this made us forget the Queen’s message at 1pm, anyway we had a recording of it later on. It’s nearly always the same kind of message, isn’t it? It was nearly 2 o’clock when we sat at table for lunch and 3:30 when we finished. Oh before I go further I want to thank you all for the lovely gifts you sent us. My stole is really beautiful and so warm. It’s really a good wrap, many thanks indeed for such a lovely gift. 31 March 1959. The Zoo; not so interested and choir singing

31 March 1959 My dear Len and Margaret Although it’s now gone 9 o’clock and I’ve finished my Canadian letters, I feel I must start a few lines on my Glasgow letter, otherwise you good people will not receive your weekly letter. I blame holidays for this, why must there be holidays, they disturb the usual routine. In less than 3 hours March will have passed away, it is disappearing as a lamb, today has been perfect weather, sunshine the whole day. It has been like a summer day, the sun was warm. Yesterday Easter Monday was fine and dry, but there was a cold wind, people needed their coats. Still it was fine enough for people to go out in the country, this made up for Sunday’s rainy day. Wednesday evening Here I am again to see if I can get through this letter so that it can be mailed in the morning. I don’t really like to be so late with my letters. 21 April 1958. Plot for sale and summer weather is coming

21 April 1958 My dear Len and Margaret This is Monday eve. Very early to make a start on your letter, isn’t it? But then it will only be started. We have just enjoyed two summer like days. Of course we don’t know how long this kind of weather is going to continue, it has turned out cooler this eve. For the first time this winter we have not lit a fire, Father is alone in the front room with his TV. He has the paraffin stove lit. Father has been to his Rent Tribunal outing this afternoon. Gladys and Eddie (Syvret) were here last evening, they came after Chapel service. I think Eddie has gone much thinner. Joan was not with them, she was busy doing shorthand which she is now learning. I believe she is going to New Zealand in August, I think it’s with the intention of remaining there for some months, I think this is the reason she is learning shorthand.
