10 November 1958. Looking dignified and 'know your place'

10 November 1958 My dear Len and Margaret Although this is only Monday eve, I thought it better to make a little start on this letter because if I don’t I may be disturbed. The Le Feuvres come on Wednesday eve, there will be no writing done. We were delighted to get a nice letter from Len this A.M., but I must say Len is a very naughty boy to pass such horrible remarks on my wedding hat. That was a brand new hat from the big firm of De Gruchys that I bought for the occasion. Everybody thought I looked very well, (and I think I did too) but I will say it doesn’t do me credit on the picture, in fact I don’t like myself there at all. I am just squatted between Dad and Charles. It’s as you say it seems they are both holding me up, but you know I had nothing to drink except a cup of tea. I admit I look just like an old grandma between these to men who are much taller than me. I did look very nice and dignified. You can laugh, but it’s quite true, I am really a bit disappointed ...

1 April 1958. Swanky house in Glasgow and holiday plans

1 April 1958 My dear Len and Margaret This is Tuesday eve and I’m making a start on your letter. I am not sure if it will go as usual on Friday (Good Friday). I think we will have to mail it on Thursday eve. We have been to St Peter this afternoon, this was our second visit this year. Uncle John is about the same. The only thing he is trying to stay in bed all day. Aunty has trouble to have him to get up, it would be a bad thing if he started not to get up. The weather has been colder today. There was a fog this morning which made it feel cold. Now that we are in April we will expect to have some nice sunny weather. On Good Friday afternoon Kay, Arthur, Jean and little Jane will call in time for afternoon tea. Jean and Jane go back to England on Tuesday and won’t return here before they go to Canada next month. 4 May 1959. Bristol: an unhealthy place to live

4 May 1959 My dear Len and Margaret Monday evening. It has been a lovely day. Beautiful sunshine, but not too warm, although warm enough for me. Dad and I have visited John at the hospital. Aunt B was there too also uncle Frank arrived. We had a chance to be brought back, this is the reason I am able to start on this letter. If uncle F had not been there Aunt B was coming back with us + remain here until 9 'o clock. There was no other bus to take her back before. Uncle too has taken her back.  Uncle J is getting on fine. He says he has improved quite a lot today. He certainly is looking very well. His face seems to have filled out. He will be pleased when he can get back home. Now before I get on further I want to thank Len. for the lovely PC's he sent along with his letter. I am very pleased to have them + one of these days I will be putting them in my album, preferably this week. I have not put in any new ones since these extra pages have been added. Kay has also...
